Bay Area Dance Week : Friday, April 26th - Sunday, May 5th
Dancers' Group is pleased to announce the 21st anniversary of Bay Area Dance Week. This annual 10-day festival features over 400 hundred free events throughout the Bay Area. Take dance classes and watch free performances in a wide range of styles including Argentine tango, classical Indian, jazz, hip hop, ballet, traditional hula, fire dance, Samba, modern, Chinese classical, belly dance, aerial dance, West African, contact improvisation, and more.

San Francisco Silent Film Festival - Wednesday, May 1st - Sunday, May 5th
The 24th SAN FRANCISCO SILENT FILM FESTIVAL will take place May 1–5, 2019, at the beautiful Castro Theatre. Five glorious days of live cinema—dazzling silent-era movies set to extraordinary live music! This year's program features 25 programs (including an illustrated lecture presentation at the Pacific Film Archive in Berkeley), all with live musical accompaniment! There are films from ten different countries— Bali, Czechoslovakia, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Sweden, US, and the USSR—and more than 40 brilliant musicians from around the world to accompany!

Cinco de Mayo in the Mission - Saturday, May 4th
@ Valencia Street b/w 21st & 24th Streets (10 AM - 6 PM)
In 2019 the San Francisco Cinco de Mayo celebration will return to the heart of the Mission District as San Franciscans will celebrate one of our City's most spectacular traditions at Mission Neighborhood Centers’ 15th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration. This family-friendly celebration which is being held on one of the Mission’s trendy, main thoroughfares will showcase the very best of Mexican and Latin American cultures with a diverse array of Mexican and Latino foods, music, dance and artistry for the entire family to enjoy. Attendees will enjoy rich cultural experiences and activities focused on empowering our community through greater awareness.

Free Comic Book Day 2019 - Saturday, May 4th
Mission Comics & Art @ 2250 Mission St (10 AM - 8 PM)
Free Comic Book Day is an annual tradition, held the first Saturday in May each year, where participating comic book shops give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their stores. This year, Comic shop retailers chose fifty-one titles overall to be available on Free Comic Book Day: twelve Gold Sponsor comics and thirty-nine Silver Sponsor comics that give fans a great opportunity to discover new titles and genres. Visit the Mission's own comic book shop Mission Comics & Art on Saturday, May 4th for free comic books and family-friendly activities all day.
** In addition, there will be an annual fundraiser for 826 Valencia (a children's writing center non-profit in the Mission)

Baile en la Calle : The Mural Dances - Sunday, May 5th
Precita Eyes Muralists @ 2981 24th Street (12 PM - 3 PM)
Brava! for Women in the Arts’ annual event takes over the streets and alleys of San Francisco’s Mission District to celebrate and preserve its living cultural heritage! Now in its seventh year, Baile en la Calle: The Mural Dances draws the Bay Area’s most dynamic dance companies and performing artists to interpret the murals through music and dance, alongside detailed narration by Precita Eyes Muralists docents. Baile en la Calle: The Mural Dances provides audiences an intricate look at each mural and its relationship to the culture and the life of the Mission. This year’s tour includes “The Gift of Xochiquetzal,” a just revealed sidewalk mosaic designed by Susan Cervantes, along with several murals located along famed Balmy Alley.
This year there will be performances by: Calina Lawrence, Cuicacalli Dance Company, Dazaun Soleyn, Dia Pa’Son, and Loco Bloco
** Tours will begin at 12PM, 1PM, and 2PM in front of Precita Eyes Muralists

Bay to Breakers - Sunday, May 19th
Howard St. / Hayes St. Hill / Golden Gate Park / Ocean Beach (8 AM - 12:30 PM)
Each year the race is a glorious celebration of the human spirit – a giant wave of athleticism, fun, frivolity, and determination flowing across the City from the Bay to the Pacific Ocean. Bay to Breakers is one of the largest footraces in the world with 40,000+ participants and 100,000+ spectators annually. The course is challenging and beautiful, and consistently attracts world-class competitors. But, it isn’t just a race for the serious runner. In true SF fashion, the race is for everyone. Thousands of costumed participants join with families, weekend runners, and walkers. As they make their way through the heart of San Francisco, energized by continuous bursts of live music, they are cheered on by thousands of spectators lining the route.

Carnaval SF 2019 : Saturday, May 25th - Sunday, May 26th
Harrison St b/w 16th & 24th Streets
Come celebrate with us at the 41st annual Carnaval San Francisco! The 2019 Grand Parade will be held on May 26th at 9:30 AM. Watch a brilliant procession of contingents, most of which will feature beautifully adorned floats depicting rich multicultural themes and featuring performers who engage and entertain the crowds. The 2–day festival will offer global cuisine, international music, dance, arts & crafts, and other fun activities and entertainment on every street corner for the entire family to enjoy.
