Swing Lindy Hop, a high-energy form of swing dancing. Lindy was a fusion of many dances that preceded it or were popular during its development but is mainly based on jazz, tap, breakaway, and Charleston. It is frequently described as a jazz dance and is a member of the swing dance family. Lindy Hop is a partner dance and is the original form of Swing dancing created by teenagers in the 20's and 30's in Harlem, NY. Like hip hop is today, lindy hop was a street dance made up by youth and retains its improvisational and social nature today.
It’s important to wear comfortable shoes; flat shoes that won’t slip off your feet are best and expect to change dance partners often

A recent addition to the vibrant Mission District arts scene, Maikaze Daiko was founded to preserve and promote the awe-inspiring art form of modern taiko, or kumi-daiko. For the vast majority of its history, taiko was associated with village festivals, traditional Japanese theater, battle, and religious ceremonies. Master Daihachi Oguchi invented the modern taiko ensemble in the early 1950s, and sensei Seiichi Tanaka, the father of American taiko, formed the first Western group in 1968, San Francisco Taiko Dojo. That’s where Maikaze Daiko founder Bruce “Mui” Ghent underwent ardent and grueling training. In addition to developing the discipline of mind and the physical strength required for this demanding art, Maikaze Daiko students learn the history and culture of taiko, both recent and ancient.
“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.” Roxie Theater/Piano Fight Showcasing the year’s best new independent avant-garde pop culture films, the Frozen Film Festival takes its name from the distinct chill of the San Francisco summer.. Filmmakers whose work is accepted into the festival are invited to come to the city by the bay in the dead of summer to screen and discuss their work. From the opening night gala featuring local musicians, local performers and local fine artists, to cutting edge student work, the Frozen Film Festival is helping to lead the film industry through an independent grass roots movement. Creative thinking and raw talent will rise if given a chance. frozenfilmfestival.com

COFFEE REPRIEVE Thanks to this sufficiently caffeinated hero at the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, coffee may escape the reams of advisories issued under Proposition 65, which has made California’s unofficial motto a confusing cancer warning. Although studies have found that coffee confers more health benefits than risks and is not associated with cancer, an advocacy group sued for the warning based on the trace presence of a roasting byproduct.
That one more frivolous scolding about an innocuous activity could be averted is a small victory for reason, which amounts to more than a hill of arabica beans in this crazy world.
