KIDS IN THE MISSION
Only if they like grilled cheese and chocolate and snowboarding and ice cream and rock climbing and....being a spy! Start with breakfast at Boogaloos - it's worth the wait! Then walk down Valencia a block and a half, past 23rd Street to the exploratorium and boys & girls club's awesome parklet Ciencia Pública: Agua - an educational installation that holds exhibits on the theme of water and sustainable water use, including a desalination pump, a rain gauge, and a low-evaporation plant watering device.
Now turn around and walk back up Valencia Street and check out Aldea Ninos for fun toys to keep those little hands entertained in restaurants. Then, continuing up Valencia, cross at any intersection before 19th Street and explore the great creative, educational and interactive toys and games at Paxton Gate's Curiosities for Kids.
For kids 7+, head back down Valencia half-a-block to 19th Street and turn right and walk to Dolores Park at the end of the street for slides, swings and ramps. After an hour or so in the terrific new playground, stop by Bi-Rite Creamery for a sweet treat like roasted banana and malted chocolate swirl.
For more afternoon fun (they shift to 21+ at 8pm) don't miss Urban Putt which offers guests a fun, only-in-San Francisco experience with top-notch food and drinks, and a fantastical, high-tech 14-hole indoor mini-golf course.
For a great time with the kids in the North East Mission/Mission Creek neighborhood, little ones can stay close and enjoy the play structures at Franklin Park at 17th & Bryant. There's also a big soccer field for active kids who need a good run-around during an urban exploration day. Then have lunch at American Grilled Cheese Kitchen where parents will be enticed with artisanal cheeses and exotic combinations like wild mushroom, leek and Gruyère with thyme butter.
Get energized for your sporty afternoon with a visit to Charles Chocolates which offers tours and a selection of wildly scrumptious chocolate treats and gifts.
Now sport up! Try rock climbing at Mission Cliffs or winter skiing and boarding, or summer surf lessons at Adventurous Sports. Both have camps, kids' programs and private group lessons. Adventurous also has a monthly Saturday SpyNight to keep the kids busy during an adults night out.
As the kids play spy, parents can chill over appetizers and adult bevs at nearby watering hole Asiento or enjoy dinner at Blowfish Sushi.
